About Oliver Smith
I’m a UK-based freelance game sound designer specialising in gameplay-driven audio and implementation for games and VR.
Tools: Reaper • Audiokinetic Wwise • Unreal Engine • Unity • iZotope RX
I work with developers who want sound to do more than just “sound good.” My focus is creating audio that enhances gameplay, strengthens player feedback, and integrates cleanly into production pipelines. From combat systems and environmental audio to UI, cinematics, and interactive sound design, I build audio that feels like a natural part of the player experience.
I’ve contributed to multiple shipped titles across PC, console, and VR, including award-nominated projects such as Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem and a #1-selling release on the Meta Quest Store. I collaborate with established audio teams including Tuning Pop Sound and PitStop Productions, and work directly in Wwise and game engines to take projects from placeholder audio through to polished, release-ready sound.
I’m typically brought into projects where reliability, collaboration, and both creative and technical audio ownership are required. I work closely with designers, engineers, and artists to ensure sound integrates seamlessly into the wider game.
My background started in music and synthesis, but I was drawn to interactive audio and the way sound shapes emotion, pacing, and player experience. That focus continues to drive my work today.
I collaborate remotely with teams worldwide and am currently leading sound design and implementation for Reave, a dark fantasy VR title from Alta VR.
Outside of work, I enjoy field recording, playing guitar, and spending time outdoors—continually finding new inspiration for the sounds I create.
